How Hesitation & Ego Cost Me At Least $10,000 (maybe a lot more) This Month

A few months ago, I spoke to Marie Forleo and Laura Roeder about their upcoming B-School launch (which closes in just a few hours) and decided I was not going to promote it because they could not promise me a reciprocal mailing for my Money Map launch.

Ugh, writing that feels icky. But, it’s the truth.

I got caught up in the comments of a team member who was insistent that I should only promote if they agreed to promote and decided that team member was right.

So I saw B-School come around and the campaign was simply kick ass.

Marie and Laura, as usual, brought it.

But, I was caught up in preparation for Eden and I had already decided I was not going to promote, so I didn’t pay too much attention to what was going on.

I did notice though that many of my friends were signing up and I was a little bit kicking myself for not having promoted it because they could have been signing up under my link, generating a hefty affiliate commission for my money map.

Then, I got back from Eden and saw that there was still one more day for enrollment in B-School and the offer looked amazing. I also saw that it was a great complement to my Money Map program and that the affiliate commission was enough to allow me to give my whole Money Map program away for free to anyone who enrolled via my link.

So I decided to swallow my pride, tell my ego to step aside and give my community a gift.

Enroll in B-School using this link and get my whole Money Map program (sells for $1997) for free OR for those who already have Money Map an hour of time with me for integration and the creation of a custom action plan ($2,500).

Seven people have already taken me up on my offer. And at least another 7 contacted me and said … “Oh, I wish I would have heard about this 24 hours earlier – I just enrolled!” I imagine there are at least another handful out there who did not contact me.

So, a $10,000 mistake, at least.

Had I promoted B-School right from the beginning, I would have possibly had a $25,000 payday just from sending out a few emails to my list about a great program that compliments my work.

But, I let hesitation and ego get the best of me and I lost out as a result.

The reason I am sharing this with you is because I want you to learn from it. And so I can remind myself for next time.

1. Promote programs, courses or products that will help your community, even if you are not getting a reciprocal mailing in return.

2. Offer a valuable bonus, if you have something that will complement the offer.

3. Do not let your ego get in the way of promoting other people’s Great Work.

4. When you see something that will help your community, share it with them and use your affiliate link so you can make great money leveraging what others have created.

5.  And never, ever, ever, again let ego get in the way of sharing something that is such an all around win.

So just to recap … when you enroll in Marie and Laura’s B-School (and hey, it may seem like it’s just for women, but it’s really not if you are a smart guy) using this link, you will receive my entire Money Map to Freedom program, which sells for $1997, OR if you already have it, an hour of private time with me to integrate it all and create a custom get into action plan.  Either way, it’s a huge win and I strongly recommend you dive in so you can get me, Marie and Laura all working on your business this summer.

It just does not get any better than that.

I’m so glad you shared this, Alexis. Love the honesty! I am actually enrolled in b-school and would have loved to sign up under your link and receive the Money Map! Clearly not meant to be- but a great lesson you’ve shared. Thank you.

So bummed, I missed the deadline!  Just clicked on the link and the “school is closed”.  Want the Money Map,  I just LITERALLY do not have the capital to purchase it at this moment..  Ugh.  🙂  Oh well, I will stick with Module 1 and 2 ~ and keep taking it a step at a time.

Hey Alexis, I absolutely love marie + laura.  And i saw ur offer only after I signed.  I got a $500 rebate, but ur money map to freedom would of been delicious.  I didn’t sign up until the last 24hrs.  I thought it was a bit out of reach for me with my current situation, but decided this program would help me MASSIVELY get me OUT of the situation i’m in.  There’s nothing like ‘starting up’ with a whole heap of knowledge + support.  Love your work – and love your honesty. always. xx

As usual, love the transparency & the whole swallowing your pride & doing the right thing.  You really know how to lead by example, even with your mistakes.  I was going to comment something along the lines of “y’all should sign up because the chance to work with Alexis is worth its weight in gold and she will help open your eyes, even if you end up finding out you aren’t fully ready to implement all of the Money Map” but it looks like it’s too late.  (Feel free to quote me on that & insert any of your programs where I put Money Map. lolz.)

Forleo and Roeder are totally rad & inspiring and I would be surprised that it wasn’t a no-brainer to do an affiliate promo from the get-go, had you not explained it here.  🙂

    Love, love, love.

Thanks for sharing the good, bad and ugly… we’ll all learn from this – I know I’ll remember this!

Love this Alexis –  I actually had an “awakening” re: promoting other people’s stuff earlier this year when I promoted your Money Map program. I love that program, loved the offering and for the first time did a real and purposeful affiliate promotion. Folks loved it, i was hearing lots of great comments from people who joined via my link and also received a lovely affiliate cheque from doing so. (oh, i mean check for my US friends, hehe.)

Part of the shift for me I think was that there is stuff that “theoretically” I would love to create/offer myself… but realistically it’s not going to happen. Not only a time issue (if only we had time to create it all right?) but more importantly an issue of who can do it the best? I had a call just the other day with a colleague who is creating a program I was thinking of creating… and instead of doing it myself i’ve decided to go ahead and promote his. Why reinvent the wheel, and I know his stuff rocks. And now I have less work to do too. 🙂

It can be so difficult to follow our intuition and heart’s message when we trust someone else’s authority instead of our own.  Seems like you got back to center and did what you knew to be right for you, your mission and your heart- right on!

It’s obvious from this post that you are all about helping your community and bringing “Great Work” into the world, whether it’s your own or others.

    Brava!

It seems like from my research $10,000 is a drop in the bucket for you–you’ll survive.
