Help Me Pick My Next Logo

I believe my blog readers are the most intelligent, creative and business-savvy people on the web.

For that reason, I’m asking you to help me make an “executive decision” and choose a logo for my latest venture—LIFT.

A little background to help you in this process:
  • LIFT stands for Legal, Insurance, Financial and Tax. And the LIFT program will help micro business owners get excited about building their business with a LIFT Foundation.
  • Millions of small business owners each year lose money or face serious setbacks in their businesses because of lawsuits, conflicts, audits, bookkeeping issues, unnecessary tax bills and having the wrong type and amount of insurance in place.
  • Lack of knowledge about these issues personally cost me nearly $750,000.  Combine that with my law school and undergraduate education and I’ve got a million dollar education to share with you about these topics.

I’m really excited about the launch of LIFT, but of course I can go no further until this logo is chosen.

So here are your choices below (double- click on the image to enlarge it if you’re having a hard time viewing the designs):

Please leave me a comment letting me know your preferred font choice (each column has it’s own font) as well as your preferred color scheme (each row has it’s own color). Also, and this is very important, please let me know whether you are a current business owner or an aspiring business owner. And, of course, if you have any other thoughts/feelings, please let me know that too.

Based on your feedback I’ll make my final decision!  Thank you so much in advance.  I can’t wait to hear what you think.

Alexis…you know the power of Orange..I’m voting on the first horizontal line any of them , though I prefer, E..yes of course I own my own business, and I keep your sites high on the radar. Love your theory and practice.. ~Deb

B5 I think is my favorite but I was overall drawn to row 5. I see why you have inlisted help. I would have a hard time narrowing that many choices down as well. I like C3 as well. I do not really care for row 6. Best wishes selecting the final one.

Unless the logo is for women only, I recommend staying away from pink and purple. In general, men tend to consider them chick colors. Conversely, men tend to love green and blue. If you are targeting both genders equally, I recommend 1A or 2c. I like the colors and typography on both of these although the background is a tad light on 2c and you may have trouble on some web monitors.

    Best, Wendy

    Alexis,

Faves are 1E and 2E, in that order. Look/colors definitely read more clearly and pop more than the others.

Only Q (for your graphic designer, perhaps) is why are all examples either all lower case, or caps+lower case – if LIFT is an acronym (each letter stand for a word, so usually letters are capitalized)? You may have a reason – just thought I’d ask …

    Hope that helps!

I’ve had my own Strategic Planning/Creative Firm for 15 yrs.

    Best,
    Julie Ann

I like the one if the 5th column, the 5th one down. I’m an interior designer and a current business owner. I was also in your inital LIFT program!
    Thanks,
    Joyce

I liked E in row 1 right away. It looks serious, but with a soft edge.
I own a hair salon, have ongoing legal issues and am just making ends meet and working a lot. rying different marketing stratagies, and feel hopeful. I would hire you…

Julie, thank you. And, GREAT question re the capitalization. I hadn’t even thought of that. It is an acronym, hmmm ….. I’ll have to consider whether to make a change based on that. Alexis

    E1

  10. Joe SkeFriday, October 23, 2009 at 11:25 pm

I personally like 1D and 1E. I prefer the font in 1D since it doesn’t overpower the imagery of the logo. 1E seems to dominate font wise which is fine, but I felt a warmer feeling coming from 1D.

  11. Tanisha RodgersFriday, October 23, 2009 at 11:25 pm

    E1, then A1

Text — Capital L is great to frame the image. The others are more open and actually feel uncomfortable and unstable to me. The larger text in A1 would be my 2nd choice.

Color — Orange is great because of the “lifting” sunrise imagery.

Great concept and choices! ~Tanisha Rodgers 🙂
    (current business owner)

p.s. The variation in letter sizes is so visually pleasing in E1 as is, I wouldn’t worry about changing it to strengthen the acronym. If the words are near it, it’ll come across, if they’re not, a new person wouldn’t know it’s an acronym anyway. All lower-case in A1 works well too, acronym-wise. 🙂

    1E no doubt!

    Column 4
    row 2

    Hope that helps.
I like the tagline Build it like you meam it.

    Alexis,
I ike column E overall, 1, 2, and 4 are my favorites, not real big on the gray in row 6.

Hi Beautiful. The shading in column C is cool. Color selection can be difficult because colors come in and out of fashion yearly. That’s a very personal choice. Brown is the new black so that will probably be around for a few years and it can be paired with many other colors.

  16. michelleFriday, October 23, 2009 at 11:59 pm

I would go with something red, but the design is nice.

  17. Carla KrogerSaturday, October 24, 2009 at 12:01 am

I like the E row 1E stands out the most.
I really like the “L” and how it stands at attention to emphasize the word lift.

My only question is: Shouldn’t all the letters be capitalized if it is an acronym? I think it is a good concept either way.

I am a business owner. I offer strategic planning and business management services. This is a much needed service.

  18. Guy HirschSaturday, October 24, 2009 at 12:36 am

    2E
The letters should not be covered with any illustration. This business touches people’s most sensitive issues, and as such they need to feel that you’re not hiding anything – you are capable, trustworthy and smart (er). Hence, the letters should be bold, give sense of empowerment and have the illustration in the back as a reminder to a novel “brain” that is powering the whole thing.
    just me 2 cents.

E2 is my first choice. Then either E1 or E3. I love the colours & font, works well together to represent your biz. My credentials include a degree in Visual Comm and years as a designer of logos and signage for small biz. All the best _geoffrey

row four blue with the large font

  22. Russell YermalSaturday, October 24, 2009 at 6:45 am

    Alexis,

I’m all about 1E. Between the psychology and appearance of both the font and the color you’ve got a winner in my book.

    Sincerely,
    Russell Yermal

    1E or 5C

    Very tough decision.

I like them all for one reason or another.

    much love,
    Charu

Hi Alexis, I like the C and E column graphics – favorite colors are the orange and blue (which I promise has nothing to do with the fact that I’m a University of Florida Gators fan!) Best wishes for your business!

I like 1A or 1D. Great job! Can’t wait to see your launch 🙂

For some reason I really prefer the initial caps in the 5th column, either #1 – love the warmth, or #5 – such great symbolism in the color purple for lifting things up to a higher realm. Best of luck!!

I was immediately drawn to 1E. Great design…looking forward to your awesome creation. To your success! Donna

Great logo concept! I really like the font in column A – the middle columns are harder to read (I find the t looks like a demented l!). As for colour scheme, I would stay away from pink (as someone mentioned above, not “man-friendly”) and grey (not inspiring). My favourite colour is definitely the blue, with purple a close second. I’m also partial to green (see the colour scheme on my website!), but with your tagline, I think the orange is the most up”lift”ing (pun intended, haha). Good luck choosing one, I know how agonizing this can be!

    Hi Alexis,

Congrats on your new product. Like some of your other commenters, I’m a logo designer. Here’s my two design cents.

C1 works best for me. Not convinced it’s the right font though. Lots of beautiful fonts out there. Maybe look at a few more?

My vote is for either E1 or C2, from the available choices. 🙂

I like B1, because the dot over the I looks like sunshine and that is what you will bring to business owners. The girly girl in me like C3 because it is pink :). Good Luck selecting your logo.

  33. JacquelineEMonday, November 9, 2009 at 7:48 pm

I like D4 – because to me the blue color scheme – the navy and aqua combo (Navy says solid/reliable while the aqua to me speaks to modern and 'height' – ie soaring) and this design of the circles say 'lift' -I really like the font too. It just really seems to speak to what you are trying to achieve with the new venture.

I am a new business owner in the health care (international) industry (with little direct prior experience just a lot of heart and determination) and these areas are the ones that I find the most unsettling on a daily basis.

Best wishes with your new venture.

All I can say is…you're obviously targeting females businesses with this. I'm very girly girly, but the design and colors look like they would turn men off.

I like E5. Its bold and powerful. In addition, purple is the color for wealth and royalty as well as wisdom and spirituality. It has a calming effect which is what you will be creating in the minds of your participants. I hope this helps! =)
