What Are You Doing to Prepare?

It seems very possible that the US dollar is on its way to collapse. While I’d like to pretend it’s just fear-mongering, I can feel the reality that it’s not.

The reality is that we know a shift is coming.

Whether that shift is a massive weather shift that impacts all of us, an economic shift that will rock us to our core or some sort of an astrological shift around the year 2012, it does not matter.

The shift is coming and I’m wondering how you are preparing.

450,000 Jews did nothing in the face of Hilter because they couldn’t believe how bad it could get.

New Orleans residents watched water pour into their homes and did nothing because they couldn’t believe how bad it could get.

Are you going to be taken off guard by not believing how bad it can get?

I sure hope not. I hope you are being realistic about what’s coming and not burying your head in the sand of magical thinking and false security.

What I’m doing to prepare?

  • Bringing together a community of people who care about each other.
  • Making sure all members of the community have somewhere safe, supportive, nurturing and nourishing to land in the case of food or water shortages or urban riots.
  • Educating myself about things I don’t really like to think about.
  • Leveraging all of my resources to create assets that I know will matter no matter how bad things get — land, food, education, training, community.
  • Looking into co-ownership of property overseas, particularly in Peru.
  • Doing the inner work I need to do in order to be able to say yes to any and every challenge that comes my way with grace.

So, what about you? What are you doing to prepare?  Or do you think I’m being too over the top about this?

I’m interested to hear – please share your thoughts in the comments.  I read and appreciate them all!

    Nice.

    You integrate fast.

I think this is an important message… and I’m coming to believe that the intensity of the changes will be in proportion to how intimately we open ourselves to what they are asking of us.

Love you LOTS for this post. Will be sharing copiously.

I’ve been discussing this a lot with the family I’m visiting in New Jersey – particularly because our country likes to think we’re self sufficient and independent… until we have to boil water outside or figure out how to get heat without a thermostat.

Personally I’m developing relationships with farmers in my community since I prefer community supported agriculture and family farms. Farmer’s markets are a start but my current home is not well suited for growing so I’d be in trouble when the dollar becomes worthless. Check usdebtclock.org and the unfunded liabilities – it’s insane how much we owe compared to the GDP.

    Hey Alexis,

I’ve been thinking on this quite a bit lately myself.

Why are you looking into Peru in particular? I just recently had some long conversations on buying some property in Costa Rica.

I’m still grappling with what to do.. we’ve put in veggies, we know our neighbors, we have a lot of skills… so many other questions – about investments, about selling the house, it’s very hard to know the best choices to make..

I think it’s better to prepare than to ignore the signs. You’re doing great things!

Great post Alexis… you are absolutely right, a shift is happening NOW! As you know, we are currently experiencing the largest transfer of wealth in all of man kind. Those who prepare will do very well, those who don’t, well… it’s gonna get ugly, real ugly.

Education is the key! To support you and others, I’ve created an amazing video series highlighting exactly what is REALLY going on with the economy etc.

I sure hope you’ll take the time and make the investment in education.

Praying for hope and abundance for all.

This is really a tough one Alexis. I’m not sure many people are prepared for any kind of disaster let alone this. We should talk about this when you and Russell come on the show in May. We might have to tread gently though.

Great post! That’s what we’re up to with the non profit – researching simple, easy ways people can become self sufficient to grow their own food and reuse their own waste products, not only in the event of an upcoming crisis, but right now, since we believe it often leads to greater fulfillment and enjoyment of life. And it’s not just the US – we’ve been floored by what we’ve seen (or haven’t seen) abroad – the complete propagation of homogenized westernized culture, all of the bad parts, few of the good parts. We’re still in the exploration phase and haven’t yet determined which solutions we’re going to recommend, but we’re just happy to hear that other people are in the inquiry.

You are being too over the top about this. I think if you are making those stark comparisons (Holocaust, Hurricane Katrina), you should at least explain first, why you think that the US dollar is on the way to collapse and second, even if the US dollar would collapse, would it really mean an end of the world scenario…please get clear on these two topics first, and then derive suggestions…explain us why we should be paranoid first, and tell us what to do second…

Btw you just gave me a great topic for an ECON class that I will be teaching soon. Thank you 🙂

I find the question of investments to be the biggest one. There are a lot of people touting gold, but something is just not feeling right to me about that. I’m leaning toward equipment, goods, land and my own education/evolution for my investments. These are things that have inherent value to me, whereas gold still seems so abstract. I plan to write more about this soon.

I appreciate you letting me know it feels over the top. I really do not want it to be like that because I am such a positive person generally speaking, at least I feel that’s true about myself. I will take your advice and write a post about the two topics you requested. It will help me get more clear for myself as well. Thanks.

I’ve spent time in both Costa and Peru. CR didn’t feel great to me energetically. Granted, I was there on a movie shoot w/ a guy who didn’t feel great to me, but … Peru feels like home. There’s a clear sense of the sacred, the mother there. I have a group of people and land I’m seeing coming together there. If CR feels right to you, say yes to that.

Yes, our self-sufficiency is a big lie that is going to come crumbling down around us. I know it will for me, if I don’t do something. I’m so dependent, it scares me. Continuing to get free though, a bit at a time.

I’ve given this a bit of thought over the course of the day. Love that your comments get posted to Twitter because it reminded me to come back.

Empires all over the world have fallen when they’ve grown beyond their spheres of influence and can no longer support themselves. It definitely happened to the Romans and one could argue it’s happening to the Church as an organization as well.

Collapsing empires are probably better analogies because the Nazis were putting an effort into eradicating a people and building an empire and Katrina was a natural disaster.

What we couldn’t do with those instances is look into the history books and watch as the events of our time have analogues in other large collapses. A friend of mine, an historian and seller of ancient Roman coins, schools me on this all the time.

What scares me that most is that the average person reading your blog, presuming they’re average people, will have less say in how they survive and prepare after any kind of collapse because those most responsible will also be most protected – just like we saw in the 2008 meltdown.

    *sigh*

I am really looking forward to that post! Thanks. I know you are a very positive person. Actually I am not very positive about the current economic situation myself. But I believe if something big happens, the US will fare relatively well compared to emerging economies and developing countries….I am definitely more worried for poor economies…we have our institutions, law, companies, entrepreneurs, know-how, educated people and that’s a HUGE advantage no matter what!

  26. AriellaMonday, March 7, 2011 at 9:24 am

I love this. Because regardless of what will ACTUALLY happen, I believe being sustainable as SELF is the ultimate goal in life. Meaning, ability to handle our emotions, thoughts, physical challenges and spiritual occurrences.

And I also believe going back to the earth; learning to till the soil and grow food, and work with the land instead of against it is not only vital, but also enjoyable, stress-relieving and beautiful.

Basically, I agree with you, sister, and it is refreshing to read this. And I do feel that there will be a lot of agony amongst those who don’t want to prepare, and those who don’t even know it’s necessary. And we will then light the way.

It could shift quickly, or we could be experiencing this agony NOW…
The work we are doing in the world (the world of ourselves and the world around us) is beautiful.
    PROPS, GRATITUDE, LOVE,
    Ariella

While I do think that the economy might head back into a recession, I do not think that we are going to see meltdown of the U.S. economy. But, I do fear a shift that has been taking place in the workforce since the 1990s.

Since the 1990s, the workforce has changed in the U.S. Loyalty to employees, employers and people in general is gone. People are laid off without much thought or agony, and more workers are being hired as contractors as opposed to full time employees.

This shift is what I am preparing for. I am building a business of my own so that I am not dependent on an employer.

I hate to say it, but there is very good reason to raise the alarm bells. Unfortunately, it’s so scary that most of us don’t want to pay attention, learn the facts and GET REAL about it. But I believe that’s what we must do, all of us, if we want to not only survive, but thrive through it, and through the pain build something better. Not out of panic, or fear, we don’t want to make decisions and create new institutions in haste, but out of clear understanding, acceptance, taking responsibility and most of all, out of love – for ourselves, our family, our neighbors, our planet, our great grandchildren. Sometimes we need to feel the pain before we act.

I could write volumes here, but I’ll stop now! Our blog is almost up, it’s driving me crazy, I want to launch it NOW! 🙂 Soon, any day now. I’m writing on just these topics.

I would love to address the precious metals thing from my perspective. My dad is a numismatist and coin expert/dealer, and I’ve watched the market and his business since I was born. I think there is tremendous value in understanding the precious metals market, what it can tell us about the dollar, what it can tell us about money itself, and there’s actually a very sacred place for these metals in our economy, but they’ve been debased and whored out, so to speak, for a long time now. I’m a fan of Ron Paul and his desire to audit the fed, but going back to a gold standard would be going backwards in our evolution and economic system. However, I feel there is a very real, very special place for precious metals in the New Paradigm.

I am no investment specialist, but seeing the market form the inside for the past 15+ years, I can tell you I believe these metals make fantastic investments ALONGSIDE other preparations and as part of an overall strategy. As the dollar goes down, they go up up and up. Consistently over time, without fail. That’s my condensed two cents for now!

Again, cheers to you Alexis for speaking about these topics and trying to do so in a real, authentic, positive way.

Interesting. My husband and I are in Italy at the moment. He is Italian and I am American. Weve been talking about moving back to the US because the economy in Italian is in the pits, but the Euro is so strong.
I dont know if the Dollar will fail but it certainly is not as strong as America wishes it was. Will the euro take over? Interesting thought.
I will say though, that here at least where we are in Italy (Sardinia) community is so very present. Most families still have family farms (my husbands grandfather is 85 and still tends his) and the Farmers Market is plentiful every Thursday.
Even still I feel unprepared. I am working towards being financially self-sufficient, not only for myself but so that I can be the primary care-giver to my daughter, but its not easy when so many others say its not possible. So I am also working on my support community, finding the people who will believe in me and support me. I find that this is also most important during any crisis.

Your post isn’t even close to fear mongering (in comparison to what is really TRUE, you were barely scratching the surface)….and people who ask you to back up what you are saying or think you are being over the top, are the ones who unfortunately will be hurt most. Truth is power. Fear mongering only works if you don’t do your own homework anyway. It is no secret the dollar is heading down quickly. Not sure who would function better during this crisis – those already in poverty, living on very little, or those used to so much and don’t know how to self sustain.

I’m going to The Great Wealth Transfer conference in April, some of the financial leaders in “the know” are presenting and talking about strategies for whats to come and how to invest as well as the best ways to create income during the worst times. I don’t know how to post that email here but if you click on the link I attached, I think Mike Dillard would send the invite out if you opt’d in (not 100% sure though). I can send it to you via email if you want it.

GO PERU!!! YAY! I agree on the energy there and all I’ve been thinking about is moving there! I was going to contact simon and family to try to get connected there as well….I originally wanted to adopt a boy from there but in the wake of our economy, I’d first love to set up a business there as well as own some property. I just got done watching some videos from the Pro Mujer org in Peru, AMAZING what they are doing for the women of Peru! I’d love to help that group and you would be an amazing asset to their biz training!! Maybe that would be another connection there for you:) Either way, I’d love to be a part of your Peru planning community in any way!

See you in San Diego in a couple weeks!

It’s refreshing to hear a woman talk about the shift. I think survival is going to take place back on the land. Riots are on their way to the cities of America, people scrambling to get their meds, and power outages. I can appreciate the words of one of my heroes of the American Revolution in Samuel Adams. He said, “It is natural for man to deal in the illusions of hope; but as for me, I want to know the worst; the truth, and prepare for it.” Thanks Alexis for sharing truth!

  33. SimonTuesday, March 8, 2011 at 6:44 pm

What a great question, short and sweet. I am doing and have been doing deep inner work. Connecting to energy of love which is beyond our current society and foundations which to me are built upon fear. I too am working on connecting to like minded people and building a collective of individuals who want to create a new way of living on this planet. I do this through filming transparent conversations and this allows me to meet so many similar beings and it also creates unity.

For me it’s all about letting go, allowing and knowing this moment truly is all there is. Much of the time I am not living or worrying about the future but like you said the key is making sure we are spiritually confident to adapt and accept whatever the unknown brings.

It’s funny but when you truly say yes to the unknown, the unknown becomes the known and in this moment there is nothing to fear because what we all fear at our core is the unknown. What we all fear at our core is death = loss. If you die before you die, realise you have nothing to lose but only so much to gain by these current falling structures we have in place, especially the financial system which cannot and has not supported our species collectively ever.

This is a time to tell new stories, there is GREAT growth in pain, and in fact I would go as far to say you cannot experience growth without pain and struggle but these again are just words. If there is no right or wrong, good or bad and all is exactly how it is and beautiful too! Then really we have nothing to fear and can sit with this present awareness and experience whatever comes with eyes open and allow ourselves to flow like water to the events which will show themselves in the coming months.

When you are in real love, seeing yourself as a living breathing organism of trillions of cells completely part of this whole planet, intrinsically connected to the whole magical design then surrendering to what is, is the only action I see which gives me the power to make any real difference in this moment right now.

This choice and action allows me the ability to be love and enjoy the whole experience of being alive on this planet with you all. If you let truth and love guide you, you will attract the same vibration and then create from that resonance.

If you ask yourself are you having fun right now because if you are not then it’s time to make some changes. There has always been imminent disasters on the horizon and one thing is for sure nobody gets out alive so peace, love noooooo stress. There is no stress in love. Especially if love has no opposite!!!

    Alexis,
I lived off grid outside Austin Texas for almost two years. I lived in a tent with my then husband and we were trying to build a sustainable off grid structure and lifestyle. ( I did this while it rained for 6 months straight…and also while pregnant). We basically purposely chose to operate as if the World was already in the condition you are alluding to, in order to see if and how we could do it. We formed connections with a whole group of like minded people and started our own intentional community which met regularly to do work parties on each others property as well as to support each other in countless other ways…in spite of all our heart…and a willingness by many people to think outside our boxes…there were MANY challenges… Looking back I think many of the challenges came from EGO and fear. It can be so hard to make peace with Ego and to let go of fear. For complicated reasons I eventually chose to return to “standard civilization” bringing my lessons with me ( though i still have the land and sometimes dream of returning). It has been so hard to merge the two worlds or to find some place of balance in between…this is probably part of my great work to help myself and others navigate these very waters of which you speak…To truly be in community, asks of me to put down my fear, doubt, comparison…all my masks and everything that keeps me low…and to keep putting it down every time I pick it up. It really is so much about letting go. So for now, I choose to invest in continuing to learn to let go and let myself rise and gather others together and support them as they rise as well.

  36. Susan WolfeMonday, March 14, 2011 at 8:02 pm

I do believe that most of the population does not see things for how they really are. Our economy (at is has been in the past) will not be returning. That being said, I am looking for answers (that make sense) from people I trust. I do not feel you are being an alarmist in your observation about where the dollar is headed. I do not have a clear sense of what I can do today for my family to ensure we are protected. My spiritual life and belief that the Universe is a forgiving and abundant place can be at odds with the evidence around me. I want everything that I do and the choices I make to be in integrity and with empathy for all life on the planet. Many questions and fewer clear answers.

  37. BethMonday, March 14, 2011 at 9:18 pm

    Alexis,

I, too, deconstructed a kingdom that was not based on my most nourishing dream about a year ago. Since then, I have been living in intentional community at Grace Grove and have created a program that walks people through getting REALLY CLEAR on their deepest dreams and then Zenning their life around it (see http://www.zenyourbodyzenyourlife.com).

I left a huge security blanket to do all this. I was the “Quiet Queen” of an international wellness organization and I basically lived out of my car and with friends because of my insistence on being honored as a goddess and living my truest dream of life which means SOVEREIGNTY for me.

…in the name of sovereignty, I took your course http://www.moneymaptofreedom.com because I am BOUND AND DETERMINED to make a living for myself so I can live MY DREAM and not someone elses.

I am now looking for where I will build my SANCTUARY in a community of like minded others where I can participate in the new paradigm and contribute my skills. I may do this at the retreat that my x is building (we began it together right before we restructured our relationship) as long as it is in harmony with my highest self.

So, I am on it, I am in it and I have released all fears to live it.

Thank you for being such a fearless Way-shower,
    Beth Leone

Hi Alexis, I’m so glad you brought this up. For the past few weeks, this concern has really come into my face. I mention it to other folks and they say it’s fear mongering and out of integrity. Of course, I focus on Love and the consciousness shift that is happening to bring a better world. So when you said that you are of the same mind, yet don’t want to bury your head in the sand, I felt very validated in what I’ve been feeling. And for me, I’m not even sure where to turn to understand the implications of if, for example, the dollar collapses (and I’ve seen some predictions of that for this August) – does that mean any money left in the bank is worthless forever? Do we buy silver – how does all that work? So many wonderings……. and, yes, bottom line is we need to do our inner work and be/stay connected to Source to hold the high watch with it all. Thanks so much, Lorraine in N.C.

Beth, thanks for sharing your courageous journey. Good for you that you were able to take Alexis’s course “money map to freedom”. Create your vessel, budget your path, hold your intentions, and then LISTEN for cues.

The main reason I’m commenting on your post is that I went to your website http://www.livesoulful.com and I was totally fed by the colors! What a full expression of soul through the medley of colors! Thank you!

All the best to you in your search for a Sanctuary of like minded souls. I too am grateful for the leadership Alexis shares.

    Dearest Alexis and all,

Alexis, I just read the email where you share how you have literally been rocked to your core by the reality of what’s happening in our world. I thank you from the depths of my soul for sharing your observations and your preparations. I feel such a relief to hear you speak so clearly about what I too can see and sense is coming down. I am grateful that you care enough to put the word out for those who can hear and act.

I don’t believe it is healthy for any of us to think that we are self sufficient or that we should be self-sufficient anymore. We need one another. We have diverse gifts. None of us can do everything!

However, I do believe it is important to find our way to healthy interdependent-associative relationships in both local and distant regions so we can collaborate with our talents, resources, insights, etc . – to work for the good of the whole – without collapsing into communism. I’m so grateful for my immediate family – my husband and our two young adults. We have a supportive core community – each with our own projects and skills. We have expanded to get to know and buy from our local organic food growers which has been wonderful. We are beginning to build good business alliances. Yet, with a collapse, we would be sorely challenged.

I hear your wakeful call and I am with you! Please keep us abreast of your further plans. I’lll see what might be possible to get Elisha (my daughter) to Eden unplugged.

    Many Blessings to you Alexis!

Ok I’m reading These posts crapping myself (pardon language) because I’m feeling a connection to what is being said but I have no idea where to look for research, no idea what to prepare for (the end of the world?) and no idea what the shift in wealthis all about. I would really appreciate some guidance & clarity. Thanks

Thank you for your post. It was courageous. Here are a couple of things I have done and am doing and recommend.
    – Take a native skills class for a few hours, a day a week. Building community should include the plants animals and earth we have disconnected from. It is why we are here facing what we are facing. Learn to make fire with a bow drill, a basket from reeds, medicine from plants. The first time you are able to treat your young child’s bee sting with plantain at the park will change your heart and your life.
    – Read Left to Tell by Immacule Illibagiza. No other book has given me more hope and faith. Read it and find courage to face any situation courageously with God.
    – Saint Francis of Assisi said that it is in giving that we receive. Remember that scene in the movie “Schindler’s List” where he realized he still had a car and a watch and that he could have saved more people. Every morning I am praying to be shown how I can give generously of all the gifts I have to offer. It is why I am responding to this post.

Alexis, in looking back at history, our country has endured similiar shifts in the past, things that at the time, seemed impossible to overcome – that literally divided our nation and caused a rift that seemed to be forever ongoing – but weren’t. I’m curious what it is that you feel is different about the present time in our evolution? I hope you don’t mind my asking, however, if you do feel that fear and uncertainity, how are you able to do the work you do? I know that for me personally, if I felt a high level of concern and fear, it would then be difficult for me to speak the language of being “open” and “going for it” with business owners, etc. Rather, I would be wanting them to “take cover” and pull-in, not expand. I guess I’m trying to understand how to bridge the gap I sense from the messaging. But, that may just be me!

I don’t think you are “over the top” about this. I do have a “gut feeling” about a comet event soon.
    The answer is spiritual.

Maria, it was great to be w/ you this past weekend. Next time we are together, let’s talk more about Peru. There is a built in business ready there for the right people and one couple that already wants to invest and live there. Let’s connect about this at longevity. Love you!

Yes, building a business is a key first step -we have to get independent of the bigcorps and gov’t so that no matter what happens we can be self-reliant.

Hi Laurie, Thanks for asking this question. It’s an important one. How do I do the work I do and inspire/encourage openness and expansion while feeling the fear and uncertainty about the future of our economy?

Learning to hold this both/and paradigm within us is a key piece of training for whatever is coming our way, I am certain of that. We have to learn to be afraid and stay open. That is why business is such a great vehicle for our transformation – we have to learn to be afraid and expand there too.

As for what is different now evolutionarily – evolution is speeding up. I will post a piece on the Great Radiation when we went from not a single flower on our planet to an explosion of flowers of every kind, color and type within the blink of an eye. We are on the precipice of exactly the same kind of evolution now, but the flowers are us. And we are transforming more rapidly now than we ever have before.

Of course, that is frightening and many changes are happening. They will begin to happen more quickly now than they ever have before. And those of us who are awake to it will be in training to prepare for whatever comes our way so that we can be the calm in the midst of the chaos.

    Does that help?

    Alexis
